I thought I’d share with how my “adult life” started. Some of you may already know this about me while most don’t. I found out I was pregnant with Parker at 17. He wasn’t planned and I definitely wasn’t ready. I was a senior in high school and pregnant. That wasn’t how I’d planned my senior year. Instead of planning a spring break trip I was planning a baby shower. I was 9 months pregnant when I walked across the stage and received my diploma.
Thankfully (after the shock wore off) my family was SO supportive. My mom even took off work the week Parker & I came home from the hospital. My two sisters were great in helping me care for Parker and watching him while I worked. My grandparents, my Aunts & Uncles, and all of my cousins were also there for us when needed. I wouldn’t have survived without them.
After I got pregnant I was given a pamphlet about teen pregnancy. The statics I found bothered me so I made a promise to myself that day that I would surpass every single one of them. I graduated high school, I didn’t have another child within two years, and I didn’t live on welfare. Although I didn’t graduate college I’m ok with that. I tried and it just wasn’t for me. I’ve worked so hard for us and will continue to do so. I’ve had to work two jobs, and we had to use food stamps at one point. But I’m so thankful for Parker and the life we have now! Even though it was so trying and difficult I wouldn’t change a thing. It had truly made me who I am today. I love my growing handsome boy!
I know MTV has “glorified” teen pregnancy with new cars, fancy clothes, and fun trips. That’s not real life for a teen mom so I just wanted to share my honest experience. You don’t get a paycheck for just being a teen mom like Parker thought when he saw the show! lol!
Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures of my pregnancy due to technology and all the weight I gained! Lol
Here’s a picture of Parker and I the day I had him!
Here’s my mom, my sisters, and I before I had Parker!
If you have any questions let me know! Also if you’re a teen mom I’d love to hear your story!
